no color whatsoever, until i start to see
by Arson Silverman
everything, in the hospital
devoid of any color
but only at the start
for as the days go on
color begins to fill the rooms
and it isn't quite so dark
no color whatsoever
until i start to see
the bright red of my new friend's shirt
i see him from across the room
and immediately i know
he's just as nervous as i am
maybe i'm not alone
no color whatsoever
until i start to see
the bright red of my new friend's shirt
and the orange of the setting sun
staring out the window
a silent moment alone
my favorite time of day
as everyone goes to bed
no color whatsoever
until i start to see
the bright red of my new friend's shirt
the orange of the setting sun
and the yellow of the tiny pencils
pens could cause an issue
so none of them allowed
except for that one time
they let us break the rule
no color whatsoever
until i start to see
the bright red of my new friend's shirt
the orange of the setting sun
the yellow of the tiny pencils
and the green of our courtyard
just one hour, everyday
one hour for fresh air
not even a need for masks
it really is quite lovely
no color whatsoever
until i start to see
the bright red of my new friend's shirt
the orange of the setting sun
the yellow of the tiny pencils
the green of our courtyard
and the blue of all the painted walls
the walls of every room
are each quite unique
full of funny stories
for every dent and hole
no color whatsoever
until i start to see
the bright red of my new friend's shirt
the orange of the setting sun
the yellow of the tiny pencils
the green of our courtyard
the blue of all the painted walls
and the purple of my hair
