New Mornings And The Sleepy Doves
Childhood memories
When I let myself get lost
I wander in my mind
Remembering when I was a child
And everything was easier
Even the air seemed different
The breeze carried the scent of summertime and sunshine
Sometimes I want to go back
To the farm, down the lane, by the pond
Where the ivy grew over the gate
And forget I ever grew up
Disappear into a void of giggles and games
Where dad ruled the raft
And we ate ice cream on the steps
our hands sticky and sweet
Playing kickball in the yard
And hide and seek till dark
Making wishes on the stars that fell
and screamed, streaking across the sky
Dragging my sleepy self to bed
Welcomed by my pillow
Laughter lingering, vibrating down the halls
With warnings to settle down,
Smiles clinging to our faces, through little hands
Waking to the doves outside my window
Warmly, welcoming me to a new day
Yeah, sometimes I desperately want to go back
And just be
Happy
Listening to the doves
