Water and Light

In science class we learned

Two objects can never occupy the same space

Can never truly touch

There is always space between the atoms

Light is not an atom

A particle, a wave, a photon

Vibrating fast fast fast

But, without mass

Light can reflect off the water

Skim the surface and penetrate the depths

Flit and flirt and flash

And yet never touch

Before the light

My water was cold and dark

Unfathomable depths held

Naught but the secrets of death

Then I saw you for the first time

Blindingly luminous, achingly beautiful

Your boundless energy buzzing too fast to hear

You reached for me

An infinitesimal moment stretched to infinity

The time it took for your waves to reach mine

Oh, the way your presence excites me

I grow warm, glowing from within

I take you in deep, all the way to the edge of my secrets

As I desperately try to hold on

I can sense you scatter

Slow, absorb, and disappear

Tingling and vibrating, I breathe

Release vapor into the air

And cradle in my heart

A tiny spark of life
