Negligence Killed the Teenager

Never be distracted while in nature

By Seema PatelPublished 6 months ago 1 min read
Sol Duc Fall @Seema

That’s Sol Duc waterfall,

a fascinating place,

in the deep rainforest

of the Pacific Northwest.

I remember the trek under

the maple forest canopy

to the popular Fall,

and watching it cascade,

gushing, furiously,

over the moss-covered,

slippery boulders.

A place may be serene,

but for the negligent

it can be a death trap,

a small mistake,

it can be fatal mishap.

Unfortunately,

that’s what happened

last month,

as a teenager fell

50-foot from the Fall,

and despite youth,

the rough terrain,

swift current

was too formidable

to survive.

After days of search efforts,

rangers found the corpse.

So always be mindful,

nature is dangerous,

not to be taken for granted.

Know the limits,

of human body and mind,

be vigilant, always.

YOU are right one must be careful in nature and just about everywhere really. So sad for the parents of the teen. Good job.

What a beautiful place. I feel bad for the teenager, but your right, it's all due to negligence.

Bars! 'a place may be serene but for the negligent, it can be a death trap.' wisdom at its finest hour. With a rhyme so sharp, I couldn't help but pause. '... And despite youth' that's deep. Being negligent, no matter how young we are, we can still die like the old. The only thing is that it won't be quick. The pain will linger until the last bre- It's too scary to even think about for too long. This was great, thank you for writing your way into our minds, so that we can be more safe out there in nature. ❤️
