Nature's Nook

Childhoods are made of sun-soaked summer maples.

Stately yet gentle, with arms open wide

The old maple towers into the sky

As breeze gently ripples its verdant leaves

Rustling, now whispering, laughing at me

Teasing, inviting, its glow and its scent

Of earth and of summer, I'll ne'er forget

Hot afternoons made cool by its shade, I'd

Seek the best nook nature ever has made --

Those strong maple arms I never would trade.

The battles, the dreams, the loves lost and won

In the honey dewdrops of setting sun

The satin leaves gently wave their adieu

As twilight's velv't tapestry falls into view

Dancing shadows chase absconding light

As the sweltering day succumbs to the night

And starry gauards watch o'er my arborous nook

'Til upon it dawn's virgin rays again do look --

And I gleefully return with my book.
