I remember when you were very small,
So very young and not yet tall.
I protected you throughout the years;
Always washed away your tears.
I cooked for you your favorite food.
Rewarded you when you were good.
I always washed your dirty clothes,
Even wiped your runny nose.
Made sure life's problems you'd understand;
Did my best to make my boy a man.
I loved you when your life had first begun;
I love you, still, this man, my son.
I find a few tears now, in my eyes
And with love in my heart, I realize
The man I raised is starting his life
As you stand at the alter with your bride, your wife.
My heart bursts open with a mother's pride
As the minister says, "You can kiss your bride."
My smile's growing bigger as I look at you, son
And think back to the day your life had begun.
