You taught me my ABCs
And how to write my name
How Band-aids aren't strong enough
To heal every pain
You taught me to look both ways
When crossing the street
How something that looks like sugar
Isn't always sweet
You taught me how to use a spoon,
A fork, and a knife
You taught me, "Sometimes,
That's just life."
You taught me how to walk
And dress for cold weather
How, sometimes, good friends
Aren't always forever
You taught me to pedal a bike
And how to lace my shoes
That it doesn't have to be physical
For it to be abuse
You taught me how to read
And have a passion for words
That I may can stop the bleeding
But the scar still hurts
You taught me about feelings
And how they are defined
That not all smiles can
Be considered kind
You taught me humility
And that we all make mistakes
That there's more than one way
In which a heart breaks
You taught me to wish for more
But also stay humble
That stepping too soon
Will cause me to stumble
You taught me so much more
Than I realized I know
And that even bad seeds
Can still have a place to grow
