My Dearest Scion
Hampton Wade 1001 Main St. Universe City, Heaven 11111

My Dearest Scion Hampton,
Life has evolved to dust since we met
to celebrate my sixtieth plateau.
You laughed with jest and a dinner date set.
If I had known, it’d be forever …
then I would have clung to you as a treasure,
never to let go.
*
Night lights, a million candles exert…
and staged your gridiron show.
Your sweat, earth scents stained my shirt.
If I had known, it’d be forever…
Then I would have clung to you as a treasure,
never to let go.
*
Amber mountain skies, your arm on my shoulder.
To debate the mysteries of the world.
Life, women, and wonders.
If I had known, it’d be forever…
Then I would have clung to you as a treasure,
Never to let go.
*
The Yellow bus rolled by our home sublime.
Kidnapped you to school.
Your fingers slipped mine.
If I had known, it’d be forever...
Then I would have clung to you as a treasure.
Never to let go.
*
Your googoo eyes, sweet cooing charms,
you stole my heart, and I glowed.
A newborn, shielded in my arms.
If I had known, it’d be forever...
then I would have clung to you as a treasure.
Never to let go.
*
Green to ashes, dust to death.
I hold our memories close.
Though heaven seems far, it’s but a breath.
Wait for me,
and you will see
this veil is not forever.
We’ll embrace
and count our treasures.
Never to let go.
Sincerely,
Your Dad

Hi Scott, this is such a beautiful tribute to your son. Heart breaking but also a celebration of his life.
I'm so sorry for your loss. What a heartbreaking piece
❤️
I can not begin to know what your journey has been. Thank you for sharing this. It was breathtaking
Oh, Scott, this was so beautiful! I love the way you took us back in time. My heart hurts for you- a pain I can’t fathom. Lots of love! 💫
Unconditional love within an inconceivable loss, your tribute to your son vows the everlasting emotion of love - written so beautifully, and I agree ‘Though heaven seems far, it’s but a breath’ - I am so sorry for your pain, I do believe in my heart you will see him again. ❤️
This was truly beautiful, Scott. The way the stanzas move backwards in time and the last three lines repeat. It just added so much each time I read them. Thank you for sharing this poem with us. ❤️
Your subtitle had my tears flowing. And it flowed throughout your poem. Your photo at the end hit me hard. I've read many pieces of yours about Hampton but this one made me extra emotional. Your poem was beautiful!
A beautiful tribute, and a powerful reminder that nothing is forever… not our time with people, and not our time apart either. “This veil is not forever” is my favorite line.
Oh my, this moved me so much. You did this with such beauty, elegance, and truth. Thank you so much for sharing, Scott, and I'm so sorry to learn about this. 😔❤️
I don't think any parent could read this without a lump in his/her throat. It's raw and emotional, yet smooth and eloquent. I'm so sorry for your loss and so glad to have read this wonderful tribute!
Such a beautiful eloquent poem for your son. Very moving and tears are in my eyes right now. I'm so sorry for your loss.
Your poem tackles in a most elegant way something no parent wants to ever have happen.
Oh my... This one hurts, but that's more than okay. If sharing with us helps one iota then share all you can about Hampton. I'm so, so sorry you lost him Scott!
“…this veil is not forever!” What an amazing day awaits! Such powerful and comforting words in remembrance of Hampton!
Full of so much love and anguish, what a bittersweet tribute to your beautiful boy. I'm sorry you know this pain :(

Scott, I thought this going one way , then you hit hard. This makes me take a step back, and be thankful for what I have. So very beautiful and emotional, thank you for sharing.
This is so incredibly beautiful!
Incredible beautiful tribute. Though raw and heartbreaking, your love for your son and the wonderful moments you both shared, shine through in this piece. Really well done, and please accept my condolences.
