Christmas without you once again Dad

At 29, I cried like a child.

God took the dad that I loved

The house was quiet, lights softly aglow,

But inside, an ache I couldn’t let show.

I wanted to scream, but the sound was trapped,

Caught in memories where time overlapped—

Of laughter and warmth, of your gentle care,

every Christmas dad you were always there.

Why did cancer take a man so kind?

A loving heart, a brilliant mind.

You gave so much, you asked so little,

A soul so strong, a soul so gentle.

This season feels hollow, lost and bare,

With empty spaces everywhere.

But in each light, I see you still,

In every quiet, a space you fill.

Though I can’t bring you back, I hold you tight,

In whispered prayers, in candlelight.

And as Christmas comes, I know I’ll find,

You’re here with me, in heart and mind.

It’s been 36 years, but it feels like yesterday—

Each day, I look at your photo and pray,

Tears falling for my one true friend,

My dad, my guide, my love will never end.

❤️ Rest in peace, Dad, I miss you so much. ❤️

Woww.. such a heartfelt tribute. I also lost my dad in 2012. It's still not believable, as his memory still lives in me

Lost my dad during the Christmas season as well. I know how you feel. It's a good reminder that this is the season for family. We won't always have each other and memories are hard to hug.

Oh that is so touching and brings a tear to my eye. I saw my own dad in a dream last night as I sometimes do, having lost him a few years ago. With sympathy in your grief. Best wishes

This is lovely and brought a tear to my eye. I truly understand how our dads are the first men we learn from and the role model we use to pick our mates. I miss mine, too. Thanks for putting it into words!

There are no expressive words stronger than these words in expressing love and that flow of pathos

This is a way to honor your dad. I lost mine a few years ago and mom also and I miss so much. Christmas and any holiday are not the same anymore. Good work.
