You tell me not to be angry
Not to be afraid
My emotions are not valid
My tears are an overreaction
That you voted for the lesser of two evils
That you voted your conscious
Apparently your conscious didn't care about me
About people of color,
about women,
about LGBTQ+ people,
about immigrants
People just trying to live
Trying to have the same rights as you
And as I watch hate growing with each day
I ask you what happened
What could have possibly happened
You decided that the lives of so many should be forfeited
But I forgot, you're not a bigot
I shouldn't clump in with them
Because you're different
You know people of color
Or you have a gay friend
You tell me, I should give him a chance
I say NO
He chose his side
And now I have chosen mine
So I'll shed no more tears
Because the time for tears has passed
The tears of those oppressed do not compel you
We'll show you how angry we can be
So we will fight
But not with violence
We'll fight
With protests
Our voices with sound
We will stand strong in the face of oppression
No one will take away the rights we have fought so hard for
And we will have our day
