Prologue

Mushrooms. Fungi of shade. The dark shade that covers the secret fears we have. But hope always illuminates our paths.
Enjoy this 'shroomy' villanelle.
πππππππππππππππππππππππππππ
Beneath the oak, the mushrooms softly gleam,
Their presence calls to those who dare to tread,
The unknown whispers secrets in a stream.
πππππππππππππππππππππππππππThe forest stirs, a chilly breeze does blow
,Each step ahead, the shadows loom with dread,
Beneath the trees, the mushrooms gently glow.
πππππππππππππππππππππππππππ
You move up close, but something wakes beneath,
A voice of fear is calling soft instead,
The unknown whispers secrets in a stream.
πππππππππππππππππππππππππππ
The path once clear now shifts with hidden teeth,
Beneath the trees, the mushrooms softly spread,
The unknown whispers secrets in a stream.
πππππππππππππππππππππππππππ
Yet in the dark, thereβs light you didnβt see,
Your hope shines bright where once your worries spread,
Beneath the trees, the mushrooms gently glow,
The unknown whispers secrets you now know.

This is a beautiful, mesmerizing poem. The rhythm reminds me of a gently bubbling brook, and the imagery practically glows like the mushrooms that you speak of. Well done.
Oh wow, this felt so mesmerising! Loved your poem!
This is beautiful. Well done.
Beautiful, Michelle. I once had a friend who was sure that all humans are connected to each other through an invisible mycelium just like mushrooms are.
