Prologue

This is for Mikeydred's Octoberon challenge.

The anxieties of parents are many- keeping children safe, ensuring their studies are up to par, and that their needs are met.

But persistence pays, and more often than not, nurtures rewards

Mother’s Fear

The house is quiet, but the world feels strange,

In the still of night, the hours deranged.

A creak of doors, a blast of cold—

I hug our child, my fears unfold.

Is it nothing? Or something lurking, until…

II. Father’s Doubt

She rouses me with fearful eyes,

I say, “It’s fine, just shadows that surprise.”

But her voice quakes, “I heard them sing.”

I try to laugh—but feel a twinge.

III. Shadows Linger

The whispers envelop the cot,

And in the dark, I sense a rot.

“It’s nothing,” we say, but insecure,

Our fear displays, too real, too pure—

The shadows pulse, their steps unsure.

IV. Confrontation

A figure looms beside the door,

Shape indistinct, yet so sure.

Our breaths are held, our hands quiver,

We see its face, and we shiver—

Our doubts were true, this night delivered.

V. And then …

But as it draws near, we stand as two,

Our love, our bond, now roused anew.

We cast out fear, our hearts entwined,

Its shadow fades, and left behind—

New light shines, our strength defined.

A nice love melody that opens my heart. Very few people measure each word in their writing. Each one of your words measures love in my blue soul.

This is a lovely poem about the strength of our guardians' love and its ability to make the shadows go away--even when they are afraid themselves. The story is very well told, and the rhyme scheme really pulls the reader in. Well done.

Great job. This was a bit scary to me, since I'm also a mother. But as I continue reading, I got inspired.
