Mr. Politician

Your rhetoric during the campaign was otherworldly

So good that even the skeptic could give up his ideology

Hearts were warmed

Sheets of doubt were torn

People cheered without comprehending all you said

So convincing were the initiatives you shared

Fast forward, the thumb spoke

Elected into office; power, you now hold

You seemed so polite to even the commoner at first

Now the robe of power has metamorphosed your words

A saviour has come, the people once blurted out

But looking at you now resurrects many doubts

The promises you made are only thoughts in disappointed minds

The assurance of a bright tomorrow was nothing but fabricated lies

Not a single brick laid

Not a single thing changed

The poor remains where he always was

Waiting for another election to show you the doors

But how long will he have to wait

And what shows that things will actually change

Maybe this is what politics is about

Or maybe this is how you, Mr. Politician, live it out

Deception clothed in truth might have worked

But everything, they say, that has a beginning also has an end
