“What goes by”

“Mountain Drive”

Driving by the mountainside,

oh my, what a sight,

such beauty comes to life.

Harken to the forests’ crow,

looking for dessert

amongst fallen snow.

An eagle perched,

many an aerie resting upon hickory,

edging the prairie.

A herd of deer as we pass a quarry,

is there granite, may-haps slate,

or is it mostly aggregate?

Rocks tell stories of time long lost,

wonder what’s inside,

maybe dinosaurs froze back in time.

Another car passes by,

a bike is strapped behind.

Imagine what adventures they may find.

I still remember youthful times,

when I’d be jumping out instead of driving by.

Still, I find ways to get outside,

so many wonderful sights yet unseen,

My, I wouldn’t let one pass me by.
