More than a Myth

a warning tale

If your first undulations

were the birth

of these ceaseless

tides

and your final thrumming

will be the end,

then I must meet

you in stilled breaths

when the storm's uproar

contests your allure

and determined sailors forget

through the abysmal hours

of sleepless dark

their quest to conquer

legends.

Alone,

this nameless woman

known only

for a mind of myths

and tongue of fiction

will dive

into the depths

of Sea's swelling fury

and espy

through the watery

veil the fading heart

of a lover long departed

from warmth,

bound by origin.

Yours

is a warning tale:

pursued by fools who

never knew

how to know you,

loathed by abandoned

muses,

alone yet surrounded

by ghosts

of those who sacrificed all

for a glimpse

of your haunting

brilliance.

Yet, I've never known

caution,

and I'm not easily

consumed by something

as deceiving

as beauty.

Instead, I sink,

lungs writhing beneath

stone heaviness, reaching

to free

you from the tragedy

of heartache.

Tell me,

if you surfaced

on my storm-worn

ship

and took your first breath

here in my loyal arms,

who would believe

in your

manifestation?

This is sublime! I'm guessing the ocean was the muse for this one (and the mermaids). Read a couple of the others, and they were awesome, too. Expect me to pop up in the comments to sing your praises every now and then because I love your writing! 😁
