Moon Child Longing

Tiffany Ahn

By Karen LaRuePublished 3 years ago 1 min read

My Unitarian Universalist wedding venue

Was the reason he gave

For cutting off contact with the one I loved most

Because of my ultimate moral failing

Of a church that valued inclusivity

His whole life was built on exclusivity

Keeping out those who might challenge his beliefs and ideas

Keeping out those who would challenge his power

And I was a challenge to his power

In the end, that is what it was about

I wasn't going to quietly sit by while she was indoctrinated

I was going to be a thorn in his flesh

Opening her mind to life

Like the Lotus Flower

But the thing about petals

Is that they will open anyway

The knowledge inside will burst forth

She will Bloom

Her mind is far too strong

To be held captive long

And her date of freedom approaches

I've been waiting for that date

Longing for it

For so long

It is the end of his ability to threaten legal action

Against myself or my family

For showing her love

Until then, my dear,

It is of you I dream

Forevermore
