Winter in Quebec
Speaks maple syrup French
Sweetening the snow
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The title of this poem is an echo of a famous, Quebecois folk song by Gilles Vigneault. The first line of the lyrics may be translated as follows: "My country is not a country, it is the winter."

How wonderfully charming! Loved the middle line!!
haikus are so confusing for me in their energy. They're so short but have to be packed (or infused) with so much energy or meaning. I have to roll them around like confectionary marbles to really get at them. I like to pick favorite lines in pieces I read to share but in a haiku, which is so short, and the lines are inherently built on each other its hard not to replicate the whole thing. I wish someone in the comments could help me with the words to capture the essence of what is striking (or perhaps I'm looking for infusing) about this piece; I feel like mine are too bland. I'm gonna go with one line and maybe someone else can help me figure out how to word what I want to say. "Speaks maple syrup French" This is the line that weaves it all together. Someone help! My thinking organ is mush.
Love this. Such a fun haiku. Very creative.
Oooo. Love this. A quintessentially Canadian haiku... and that lyric is fabulous! Spot on.
I love this so much!! What a beautiful haiku.
J'adore manger la neige avec sirop...c'est delicieux!! :)
This is gorgeous. I can taste the maple syrup in the snow flakes. Well done.
The way your words express the charm of a winter in Quebec. Love it! 💌
Oooo, that was so deep. This was brilliant!
