Miranda’s Immigrant Narrative

Lin-Manuel Miranda faced an endless uphill climb
But he took it in stride.
He worked hard and he wrote,
The same way Alex got on that boat.
Immigrants, they do get the job done.
But when it comes to thanks or credit they get none;
They don’t deserve fun,
They’re allowed into this country simply to earn.
It doesn’t matter what they deserve,
Their efforts must be twice as big, twice as loud just to be heard.
This is what every immigrant parent believes;
Anyone who toes out of line is told to leave.
At every turn, at every phrase,
We are alienated based on race,
Judged on culture, language, and heredity
Instead of skill, talent, and ability.
