What was your first reason?

When did you first feel like you were lost?

When did you stop believing?

Defined a border thats been hard to cross.

*

Let someone decide your potential,

put your feelings away on a shelf.

Given- with nothing to show for the gift,

denied your invisible self.

*

That person you were before you were broken,

before pain found where you were at,

That moment you opened your eyes to discover,

that everything bright - had turned black

*

When were you were taught how not to be?

Left who you were in that place left behind?

Survival inside a coma,

you died and then came back to life.

*

Found peace in the the dazzling darkness -

Never the same river twice.

Love isn’t that kind of terrifying,

sometimes, you just get out alive.

*

Nevertheless - I’m here, still standing—

throwing a line out - to see what comes back
