Memories or Imagination?

Ramblings of a troubled mind

I remember days gone by like the pages in a book,

Like the continual change in seasons, we see every day,

Would I still do them again if I had the chance today?

All those crazy little adventures that no other people took.

I can’t believe what happened, and maybe that’s why I couldn’t speak,

Of the things I’ve kept in silence for so long,

Is that why I have never found a place where I belong?

Does each and every one make me seem like a creep?

Did these things really happen? How did I go so wrong?

I was only seeking love; I didn’t mean to harm anyone.

Instead, I ended up hurting each and every one.

I was just looking for love, where I could belong.

Is it my imagination, or some perverted reality,

Stay silent, not a word to anyone; protect your own insanity.

[Author's note: A sonnet poem exploring the conflict in a man's mind over things that he has done in the past. He is trying to rationalise whether they are real or imagined. His final decision is to continue to keep quiet about them. The rhyming scheme is ABBACDDC EFFE GG.]

Till next time,

Your exploration of memory versus imagination feels raw and honest. The internal conflict comes through clearly, making the sonnet both personal and relatable.

My oh my. This image. I can't get over how striking it is. All the blues with the eyes closed. 👌🏾 Words of a man that we all need to see feel and hear. 'all the crazy little adventure that no other people took' this line bonded us with your poem, Calvin. I like the vulnerability here. All the questions you asked was so heartbreaking to read. I dislike the idea of others making a genuine person feel like a creep. Because of all the other individuals who really were. Your hidden apology and showing your true face. It makes this such a heart melting piece. 'Protect your own insanity' so many super powerful lines. But I am so happy you ended this poem in one of them. Outstanding work Calvin 🤗❤️

Very true to us all. We all have things we should not do or share. Secret love should never be told till both are ready. Maybe then if it doesn’t work out you don’t get hurt by loose lips. 💙💔💙

  • This was so poignant and emotional. Loved your poem!

I like how the ending leaves that unsettling tension unresolved, true to the theme. Great work!
