Marginalized
A poem reflecting the reality of blacks in America

We all look for a check to deposit
Meanwhile we ignore the monster in the closet
The hope that we have is less than what we owe
It seems like the poor are the only faithful
It would mean quite a lot if the world seemed to care
With the death and destruction appearing everywhere
It’s hard to find the light
It’s hidden deep within
Someday I’ll find my hope
One day I’ll be a friend
The things we remember of this world are mostly strife
It’s hard for us to picture why someone would take a life
A knife and a bullet seems to cause so many pain
But when we rest in heaven we won’t see it again
I lived a lot of life so much I’m wise at a young age
I’ve been homeless, fired but just you wait
My family lied and God mom died I’ve been beaten I’ve been tortured
I’ve lost people in my life I hope that we’re on the same page
Most of what has happened has all been out of my control
Try to live a decent life but the dice fall how they’re rolled
So the story’s always told how someone black they have it fair
But it seems like most people in the world they hardly care
I hear comments on my hair, or the clothes I choose to wear
The ironic thing I hear the most is that my music taste is fair
When was black something shameful when was black ever so gray
There’s so much to the culture black’s evolved past I can say
We never get our way, we’re never in control
We never get what fair and yet we are so bold
So the stories told, we fight for life each day
We’re gifts and we are blessings it’s time we’re treated that way
Never in my life had I sense that it’d be easy
The color of my skin is the reason that kids teased me
Was one of the smartest in my class but was never placed
In the advanced courses though I nearly made all As
People give me credit for how eloquent I speak
But no one gives a care about my feelings or what I think
It’s time to make a change and stop thinking of ourselves
Cause there’s so many people who are crying out for help
The books that we read and the movies that we see
Always portrays blacks dying and black brutality
The truth of the matter is that we just want a way
It’s hard to make a difference if we’re seen as a disgrace
The challenges we face are described as sheer oppression
When will society wake up and finally learn this major lesson
We’re human, we have power and the greed is why they kill
The need to control others is why we can’t seem to heal
A world that quiets God and puts man in His place
Is a world that lacks in morals and is responsible for life’s hate
The sin of man is senseless and it’s knocking on your gate
The one who can save us is the one that you deny
He’ll do the same to you if you don’t change
Just you wait
