Man The Barricades

Do you hear the people sing?

Amid the booming drums of war

People in their thousands

Who've found something worth killing for

Do you hear the trumpets ring?

Calling fighters by the score

To stand and hold the line

Is something worth killing for.

Do you hear the people sing?

As they martial another corps

One manned by hate-filled

Who want something worth killing for

Do you hear the corporate jingle,

Shouting, "be strong and stand for me,"

Safe behind the barricades

Saying "kill them all so I can be free"

Do you hear the people sing?

Do you hear the people sing?

Beneath the dreadful drums of war

People in their millions

Who've found something worth dying for

Do you hear the people sing?

Pledging their futures by the score

Heroes who will hold the line

And have something worth dying for

Do you hear the people sing?

Rushing to stand fast at the fore

Ready to brace against the hate

And those who've found something worth killing for

Do you hear the people sing?

Calling "be brave and stand with me,

"Up here on the barricades,

"Hold them off or we'll never be free!"

Do you hear the people sing. Songs of rebellion usually pull us from the soul.

  • Whoaaaa, this felt so powerful, especially because of the repeating line. Loved your poem!

Wow... This is heavy but in the best way possible! I love the repetitive language, call to action, and reminder that we're not alone... together we will charge!
