Make a Wish

C. D.

By Christina OsterhousePublished 4 years ago 1 min read

Make a wish! They say,

On the death of a star

By the last vestiges of a candles fire

Through the piercing crack of a wishbones rattle

And the sinking sound of a penny’s funeral

Make a wish they say

When a white horse passes your way

When a full moon rises for your birthday

When a ladybug lands then flies away

On a stone you found on a beach one day

On time

On weather

On hair

On acorns

On flowers

On chains

On air

Make a wish they say

To stave off despair

Lest you watch as hope

Falls to decay

Make a wish.
