Lunatics
An Ekphrastic Sonnet

We are contemplating the lofty moon
As is a Romantic's sacred duty
Whether at dawn, midnight or sultry noon
We seek what is sublime, or has beauty

By The Enlightenment, we were left cold
Rational calculations have merit
But as time wrings us out and leaves us old
We are moved by a different spirit

Imagination's power is most grand
Passion and sentiment make our hearts throb
By mathematics no bright flame is fanned
Over syllogisms, no one will sob

By the moon's strange power are we compelled
Against reason and science, we've rebelled

Well done sir, this is brilliant and I am sure I read it in the past, but hadn't commented. Congrats, belatedly on the Top Story and writing such a vivid and relevant piece. And, feels to be in good company that we both used the same painting!
Well written, congrats 👏🏻

This is excellent, and sadly relevant. Well done.
As romantic as the poets of old
Beautiful, as always. The ebb and flow...
