Lunar Indifference

A Sonnet

How much pain and horror and foolishness

Have you watched with silent indifference?

Fascists laughing as they children oppress

Slaves thrashed for daring to jump the cruel fence

The maid returning from work to abuse

The liar victorious despite truth

Degrees secured by plagiarists, obtuse

All taste the same to your round, glowing tooth

Could your shining silence be eloquent?

Whether full and astonished or half closed

We know you watch from the firmament;

Does your quiet looking mean we're exposed?

Your presence means no night's crimes are unseen

There is comfort there, albeit cold, clean

Sonnet

    Another instant classic from D.J. - this is just brilliant. The idea of the moon looking, on, an impassive witness, is just so compelling...and you express it so eloquently. Bravo on a great entry, D.J.!

  • Oooo, shining silence, I especially loved that!

    Absolutely breathtaking. Sir. I also love that in a funny way we've both highlighted that the moon sees it all, including the bad. As I did in two of my entries but especially the most recent one. This is a great entry.
