Luminous Thread

By Julie O'Hara - Author, Poet and Spiritual WarriorPublished about 10 hours ago 2 min read

Verse 1

There’s a soft, luminous thread

Sewing hearts to heart instead

Hidden between the walls we've built to stay alive.

It’s the quiet kind of grace

That can lift a stranger’s face,

Letting us feel the world through someone else’s eyes.

It’s the doorway to a life

We have never lived inside,

A way of knowing deeper than the mind.

Every sorrow, every prayer,

Every truth we couldn’t bear,

Empathy lets us touch the soul behind.

Chorus

Oh, empathy, you open me,

A bridge across the unseen sea.

You teach me how to feel with you,

Not just feel for what you’re going through.

But every gift can turn and bend

When ego tries to twist the thread—

So keep me rooted, keep me true,

Let gratitude be what I’m listening through.

Verse 2

There’s a shadow in the light,

Where the ego grips too tight,

Turning tenderness into a trembling storm.

When the heart begins to spin,

Pulling every feeling in,

I forget what’s mine and what was never born

For me to carry on my back,

Every wound, imagined lack,

Every story whispered by my fear.

And the kindness meant to flow

Gets tangled in the undertow,

And I lose the truth of what I came to hear.

Chorus

Oh, empathy, you open me,

A bridge across the unseen sea.

You teach me how to feel with you,

Not just feel for what you’re going through.

But every gift can turn and bend

When ego tries to twist the thread—

So keep me rooted, keep me true,

Let gratitude be what I’m listening through.

Bridge

Let me stand beside your pain

Without taking on the rain,

Let me witness without drowning in the tide.

Let compassion be the flame

That remembers your true name,

And keeps my own heart steady, open wide.

For the beauty of this gift

Is the way our spirits lift

When we meet each other soul to soul.

But the moment ego speaks,

Every truth grows thin and weak—

So let love be the one that takes control.

Chorus (Lifted)

Oh, empathy, you open me,

A bridge across the unseen sea.

You teach me how to feel with you,

Not just feel for what you’re going through.

And when the shadows start to bend,

And ego tries to twist the thread—

I breathe back into what is true,

And let gratitude be what I’m listening through.

Outro

A soft, luminous thread

From my heart to yours is spread—

A quiet force that carries us along.

May it guide us through the night,

Keep our seeing clear and bright,

And turn every human moment into song.
