Lucifer, Falling

For the 'Somewhere Between Here and There' Challenge

From: Wikipedia

...feathered notes drawn out

of my back -

face-first in the midst of

free-fall,

I struggle against cold air.

Vaulted sky above

with clouds like padlocks

against protection...

another ... torn,

leaving a blood-trail on exit,

long,

slow,

violent with purpose,

the squelch of my skin and tissue

ripping...

***

Abandoned

I am thrust through blue haze of nothing

- as I

drop -

my legs hover above,

my head below.

A tumbling force sends me

- somersaulting from space -

down

from the heavens.

***

The stars cannot catch me

for I plummet

to the earthy grasp of the open grave.

All is silence.

***

But something in the ground

reveals itself.

A crack in the soil

gapes...like an open wound.

Mighty.

Endless.

I love this poem, especially the ending stanza. It really brings the fall of Lucifer to life. The fact that I love this particular statue doesn't hurt, either. Well done, and congratulations on winning the Challenge! (Side note: I also wrote a poem inspired by this particular statue recently, so I guess I find myself a little biased towards your poem, but I really like it!)

Clouds like padlocks. I am so impressed with that line. Oh my. Squelch of the skin and tissue ripping. That line make me want to cover up in several layers. That's good because it means it's so vivid, it reaches through the screen. Falling from the sky to an open grave 🤯 my mind is blown. This is so sick. So sick it's too good to be true. Making me feel every line. Congratulations on your top win in the challenge 🤗❤️🎉🎉🎉👌🏾
