Love Is Not For The Faint Of Heart

Only The Strong Survive

By Kelli Sheckler-AmsdenPublished 11 months ago 1 min read
Noir Art

Talismanic melancholy

Pensive thoughts

Engaged in folly

Battles fought

From mad to jolly

Wistful moods

On medication

Pumped up fools

Treating frustration

Being schooled

Without vacation

Golden rules

Emaciation

Offer up the fatted calf

Denote affected bits of sad

Tallied on a slated map

Every emotion up for grabs

Romanticize the fragile mind

Being careful to be kind

Reflective, thoughtful, well defined

Too late, again, it comes ill timed

Dilatory

Creeping slowly

Negativism

Purgatory

Leaving tiny trails of dust

Leaving love

Pursuing lust

Hand in glove

Push comes to shove

Crusty, musty, dusty rust

Coddled softly, morning doves

Or firmly handled boxing gloves

Believing what you cannot see

Possessing magic energy

Giving way to what will be

I guess, is good enough for me

Real Politic in love and life? Pragmatism meets Zen? It’s always a treat to experience the twists and turns in your poetry, Kelli. You have a rich vocabulary and palette of symbols and images. This poem is particularly affecting. It’s feels like a victory teased out of defeat. Really well wrought, to channel Rommi.

Oooh Kelli!!! This piece is next-levels- you! I absolutely RELISH how your poet-mind has transformed words into magic woven. Wave your wand about everywhere!

  • Woe to those of us whose hearts lie fainting for love that's never proffered. Yet thy words are beautifully harsh & true, Kelli.

  • I especially loved how you made this rhyme and the beat it had
