LOST SOMEWHERE
Just sit back and try to relax
()()()()()()()()()
I look at the faces around me,
And listen to the stories they tell.
Lunch with the ladies is monthly,
You’d think we’d know each other well.
()
You wonder where their sources come from
For the many tales that they weave,
Some of them so far outrageous,
They’re truly too hard to believe.
()
A few share the same set of problems,
But there’s always one whose are much worse.
I try to sit here objectively
And put what I hear into verse.
()
A phone rings. It’s somebody’s husband.
It’s then that the whispering starts.
Makes you wonder if what’s on the surface
It’s what’s hidden deep in their hearts.
()
Everyone here’s in agreement,
That we all have been “there” before.
But there are some who will tell you too quickly,
That what they’d had was so much more.
()
Enough of this game that we’re playing!
I’d just like to sit here and coast!
Take time to reflect on my family
For they are what matters most.
()
The others, like me are just faces,
Trying to get by on our pride –
Lost somewhere in todays’ shuffle,
Of the grind of the day’s hectic ride.

Excellent narrative poem! You set the scene so well and the rhyme really clicked
Great poem yet a short short story.
So poignant and absolutely rings true!
