Lose My Human Mind

By Julie O'Hara - Author, Poet and Spiritual WarriorPublished 2 months ago 2 min read

Verse 1

I wore a name like armor, carried clocks like chains,

Counted all my footsteps, missed the whispered lanes.

Every thought a thunder, every plan a wall,

I was answering questions no one asked at all.

Pre-Chorus

So I loosened every language from my tongue,

Let the scaffold of my logic come undone.

Chorus

I had to lose my human mind

To feel the world with other senses,

Trade the fences for the wind,

Climb the gaps between the tenses.

When the map burned into ash,

I found rivers in my chest.

I had to lose my human mind

To let my spirit do the rest.

Verse 2

Took off my story like a coat left by the door,

Stood inside the silence I’d been running from before.

Starlight wrote a sermon on the face of night,

Roots beneath my feet tuned my bones to light.

Pre-Chorus

I stopped begging for an answer made of proof,

Heard the hymns inside the quiet—there’s your truth.

Chorus

I had to lose my human mind

To feel the world with other senses,

Hear the spaces in the words,

Touch the prayer in consequences.

When the compass broke in two,

I found north behind my breath.

I had to lose my human mind

To let my spirit do the rest.

Bridge

It’s not madness, it’s a mercy,

Not a void, it’s making room.

When the mask slips off your heartbeat,

Every shadow grows a bloom.

It’s not falling, it’s a flying

That forgets the need to prove—

When the ground becomes a teacher,

Even stones begin to move.

Breakdown

Shh—let the thunder thin,

Static turning into violin.

Chorus (Lift)

I had to lose my human mind

To see with sight that isn’t sight,

Read the light between the lines,

Feel the daydream hold the night.

When I let the questions be,

All the answers learned to rest.

I had to lose my human mind—

Now my spirit knows what’s next.

Outro

No more iron on my name,

No more cages made of clever.

Just a breath that says, “I’m here,”

And a soul that says, “Forever.”
