Lockdown 4.4
Poem I crafted from a poetry workshop today
Lockdown 4.4 2020 and something!
Washing up to twenty people a day
Helping her dozen grandparents to get up and to eat.
A thousand instructions to remember;
Breakfast, lunch and dinner all too chewy:
Too much potato; too much cheese;
And everything else drowning in grease
The bells ring and she turns them off
She’s a servant, therapist, mother and child all in one.
No time for breaks and no time for paperwork.
She is lucky to have even a day off,
When they’re all in bed it’s time to go home
Only to do it all again.
Dreams and goals crushed the wages are wrong again.
No one notices her; this is her job
She’s only a number to management who are too busy cussing at Boris.
