Life Through The Eyes of A Black Girl
A Black Girl Born in the 21st Century #VocalNPM

Introduction:
Upon turning 18 a black girls' eyes will become fully opened to the real world, and the part she plays in that world. But the truth is that most black girls' eyes are opened long before they become an adult, or a woman. Black girls learn at a very young age that they are expected to be strong and self sacrificing. For most of the time that is the only way they can survive in the real world.
“I am a feminist, and what that means to me is much the same as the meaning of the fact that I am Black: it means that I must undertake to love myself and to respect myself as though my very life depends upon self-love and self-respect.” – June Jordan
Black girls are jewels
Women Empowerment
Believe not only men deserve power
This reality we have become set in
Will be temporary and the future feels unsure
The real truth is that we are all in a war
That isn't just physical
It is very well spiritual
Don’t be ignorant
Of all we have to face
As long as you live
It is wise to build your case
As a black woman I don’t have open doors
I work hard for all I yearn for
400 years later and this hasn’t change
Faces have come and gone
But societies remain the same
“Defining myself, as opposed to being defined by others, is one of the most difficult challenges I face.” – Carol Moseley-Braun
If being black ain’t easy
Black women are a miracle to even exist
Black, and a woman at that
That is a shame and a mess
There are two common depictions of the black woman
She can is either angry and going off
Acting like an out of control loud mouth
Then there are the insecure black woman
Who can't seem to find a man
These negative reputations are destructive
This system is a problem
Black women deserve to be protected
The black man has long been expected
To show up and be a black woman’s savior
But has he appeared yet?
If you look at the black man’s condition can he even do that?
Black people we are living in a plight
Will this plight ever change?
If being black ain’t easy
Black women are a miracle to even exist
“If you don’t understand yourself you don’t understand anybody else.” – Nikki Giovanni
Black woman
What do you see when you look in the mirror?
Is it just your size or figure?
Scars and wounds
That never healed
Most have been there since you can remember
When was life ever fair for a black woman?
What happened to her innocence?
In the mirror she is faced with her pure reflection
There is no more hiding now
An invisible force stops the yelp
That wants to screams from her mouth for help
What she will soon realize
Is that it is within herself real help lies
Right where there is pain in her eyes
Black woman you are the richest of God's creation
You can't die until you realize this
