Life lessons

A poem

So far, I learned four lessons in life

Time is an ally when we use it wisely

When we’re industrious and productive

But it becomes our worst enemy

When we’re indolent and laze around

Letting the days bleed out

Until one day, our life is gone

And our dreams are buried with us underground

I learned that we will do anything

For our appearance and status

But think little of our character

We prefer to keep our physical sight

But be blind to the realities of life

As long as we can conform

We won’t look into our soul

And question what is lacking

I understood that life is love

And love is life

As simple as that

As complicated as that

If you don’t love what you do

Don’t do it

If you don’t love the person you’re with

Don’t be with them

Don’t cheat yourself and them of happiness

If you don’t love yourself, start today

Do not wait one more day

It might never come

And lastly, I realized that regret is bitter

Bitterer than failure

Bitterer than fear

Bitterer than shame and humiliation

Bitterer than any comfort of the known

Especially when the decision is in our hands

To live the life of our dreams

In the end, our life is just one day

One day, we’re born

One day, we fall in love

One day, we decide to change

And one final day, we die
