Life is a Gift
and then there’s you.

Butterfly kisses on my cheek from my son’s tiny lips.
Soft, cool breeze blowing gently through my fingertips.
Saying you missed me after your very long trip.
A late night snack of corn chips and warm cheese dip.
Spreading soft butter on freshly baked bread.
A warm summer day with soft rain on my head.
Seeing you in my dreams saying those words left unsaid.
The smell of clean sheets as we cuddle in bed.
Oversized sweaters worn on those rare colder days.
How you say you love me forty different ways.
Natural landscapes with overnight stays.
Learning new things to replace the old ways.
Knowing I am exactly where I need to be.
Feeling the Divine watching over me.
With every bad storm there’s sunshine I see.
The satisfaction of knowing how you feel about me.
Beautiful places still yet to discover.
The taste of good food and warm laughter from others.
Your eyes look at me with wonder as I shudder.
Feeling safe with you and us with each other.
Open and heartfelt conversations fill my Soul.
I wish we started them ten years ago.
Mutual trust and true friendships that grow.
Families united that then never let go.
To conclude this poem with a strong phrase.
I love to see a smile on your face.
For life itself is an amazing place.
And with you in it there’s nothing I’d replace.
