Life After Happily Ever After Sleeping Beauty
A short poetic story inspired by Disney

Disney has given everyone especially children great joy with their animated movies. However, my curious writer’s mind always wanted to know – Did everyone live happily ever after? I have written some poetic stories inspired by Disney animated films about what could have happened if the story had continued. The one I wrote about Snow White “The Return of the Evil Queen” I entered in a challenge so the link is given below.
Aurora’s Fight Against Evil
Five years had come and gone
Princess Aurora and Prince Philip
Their kingdoms had united
After Aurora came to realize
Her plight and that 100 years had come and gone
She’d vowed that only goodness
Would shine upon their land
And so right in the middle
Where once their kingdoms
Had been divided
Aurora had a beautiful white cathedral built
A representation of faith, goodness, and God
It was now a rule every Sunday
All the businesses were closed
And all the good folk to church did go
They all stood in awe as the first to always enter
Was the royal family
First Princess Aurora and Prince Philip
And little five-year-old Princess Briar Rose with her grandpa
Philip’s father King Hubert
Followed by Aurora’s parents King Stefan and the Queen Leah
In they would all march
Followed by the town folk
They were all very adored
Especially Briar Rose
Who was loved by one and all
High up above near the clouds
On a tall cliff stood Maleficent’s old castle
It was dark and haunted-looking
Covered by bush and bramble
And no one dared climb up the cliff
Although some thought there might treasures
In the old castle galore
It was Philip who first noticed
On a sleepless night
As the first snow started falling
He stood on the balcony lost in thought
There high up above Maleficent’s castle
Strange clouds gathered
And thunderbolts clapped
It was then and there
That fear struck Philip’s heart
He feared for his wife and daughter
And decided the next morning to explore
Early before the sun rose
He informed Aurora that hunting he would go
So Philip set out with his trusty hunting dog Snags
The elder royalty did think it rather odd
Philip usually went hunting with both dads
Philip knew it would take him
The better part of that day
To reach the bottom of the cliff
And he’d have to hurry to get to the top
Philip left Snags at the bottom
Knowing if anything happened
The dog would have to go for help
When he neared the top
To his dismay, he could see lights flickering
In the windows downstairs
Quietly he snuck up and peered inside
There, in the once-big room
Sat an assortment of deplorable characters
They were boisterous and joyful
Drinking great mugs of beer
And goblets of wine
It was what they were chanting
That made Philip so scared
These dreadful half-human creatures
Were celebrating their mistress’s return
One way or another Maleficent
Had managed to do that which she had vowed
And was coming to bring upon them all
Dreadful evil of that Philip was sure
His climb back down was a sad one indeed
Snags greeted him but saw his master was upset
He knew that he’d have to make one more stop
It was at the cottage of the good fairies – Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather
They had stayed there
And Briar Rose would visit her godmothers often
They would have to come and help
But he was afraid their magic wouldn’t be
As powerful as Maleficent was
It was the next day
When the kings and Philip sat down to talk
While Aurora hurried Briar Rose
Over to the godmothers for a while
In the dark gloom of the forest
Beyond Maleficent’s castle
She arose from a deep pit in all of her frightful glory
She had been chained and she had fought
To regain what she had once lost
And she was back mightier than ever
Ready to do her worst slowly she entered her castle
The creatures greeted her with joy
But it was Maleficent’s time to plan revenge
All of the kingdom’s soldiers were summoned
Everyone put on alert for strangers
No one was to enter the kingdom
Unless they showed their papers
Philip and Aurora kept a wary eye
Out for the action on Maleficent’s cliff
For a week nothing occurred
They thought the plan had failed
That Maleficent wasn’t back
Little Briar Rose played joyfully in the forest
With woodland creatures
Much like her mother had once done
There fell a shadow upon her
And when she looked up she saw
A most marvelous pony down by the stream
This pony enchanted her so much
That she just had to ride it
The little horse galloped to and fro
And then it just ran
Frightened Briar Rose hung on real tight
The pony brought the little girl
Straight to Maleficent’s castle
There is quickly flew up the cliff
Where her evilness waited
Briar Rose was never more scared
She had seen pictures of witches
But what was before her was
The most frightening of all
Maleficent smiled a cruel smile
She chuckled and assured the little girl
That if her parents could rescue her
In two days time, it would all be fine
Otherwise, she would be doomed forever
To live in a dark and gloomy world
And so her creatures
To Aurora’s castle, she did send
While Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather
Rushed to Maleficent’s castle
As the woodland creatures had run for help
Once the news had spread
Aurora and Philip knew what had to be done
It was good against evil
And they’d never let evil win
It was up to them
Without an army without any help
To rescue their precious daughter
From cruel Maleficent Immediately they set out
To discover that many obstacles
Blocked their way
The good fairies flew on ahead
Doing their best to destroy the traps
That lay ahead
Meanwhile at Maleficent’s
Little Briar Rose prayed
She wasn’t really scared anymore
Because out of the tower window
She had seen her godmothers
She also knew her parents would do all that they could
Finally, Aurora and Philip reached the cliff
They began the climb
While the fairies brought the good word to Briar Rose
Maleficent was ready
She had an awful bag of tricks
But what she didn’t know
Was that faith now filled their hearts
And faith could do so much
In the fight against evil
Finally, they entered the castle
Where guards summoned their mistress
There she stood in all her glory
More frightening than ever before
An angry and sly smile on her face
As she bid them a good day
It was a contest she said
First, she would throw out traps
For Philip to fight
And when he was beat
And beat he would be
Then it would be Aurora’s turn
To save her daughter
Philip was angry and he was ready
But neither he nor Aurora was prepared for her wrath
She stood before him as a giant serpent
Large tongue flicking
Before he knew it he was bitten
Then came a roaring fire
That nearly claimed him
Philip’s strength was waning
Maleficent just laughed and urged him on
It was at that moment that Aurora
Pulled the large gold cross from her bag
Their priest had just blessed it that day
The light of the shiny cross caught the evil one’s eye
She hissed and spat as Aurora came forth
Backed into a corner Maleficent
Turned into a most frightful horned creature
But Aurora and now Philip, behind her
Held on to the large, gold cross
And let its light shine upon it
As they got closer the creature began to smoke
Wafts and wisps of smoke everywhere
And then a miracle occurred
The sun came blazing out
From the clouds
It sent a ray of beaming light
From the cross atop of the cathedral’s spire
It seemed to fill the room
And crossed rays with the gold cross they held
The creature became Maleficent and Maleficent became the creature
Then there was a loud angry shrill shriek
And the creature exploded
Maleficent was now gone forever
The fairies had released Briar Rose
And she ran to her parents
The fairies discovered that their powers had increased
So it was that Aurora had put her faith forward
And together with Philip
They had discovered that faith
Could always win against evil
Maleficent’s castle was destroyed
And no one wanted anything from it
That Sunday the cathedral bells pealed in joy
And the kingdom celebrated and feasted.
