You lived as king, in my heart once

Reset the orbit of my world

I saw your smile and took a chance

My hopes and dreams, unfurled

I erased the past and let you in

Unaware the war inside was yours

And soon the fairytale caved in

As the battle emerged - that Trojan horse

Everything that ever made me special

Became the fuel for your fire

An angel turned into the devil

With furrowed brow and evil smile

And soon discarded for another

Left bruised and broken in your wake

She became your next, new lover

And I, your world’s worst mistake

For awhile - I fit that story

Believing that I let you down

But now, I’m the hero, claiming glory

Spoke the truth - and stood my ground

Today I love, in smaller measures

Trust endangered, not extinct

And surround myself with ones I treasure

Learning to trust my own instincts
