Lemon Tea and Cloudy Skies

A poem

Sunlight filtering through the trees

I’m sitting all alone on a red bench

A quiet afternoon, all by myself

I haven’t felt this calm in a long time

Lemon tea and my solitude

I don’t look back

I don’t worry about the future

In these few minutes

I’m held carefully by the present

The wounds are healing

I’m no longer breaking

I’ve walked a long way

Only to come back to myself

The stillness brings me peace

Gentle breeze, moving leaves

I’m far away from home

But I’m okay, I’m alright

I have myself and the cloudy sky

The next day

I’m in the hold of solitude once again

The purple evening sky

My heart is full

I have myself

Earphones, soothing music

I don’t need anything else

I don’t need anyone else

I didn’t know

About how freeing solitude is

How exhilarating it is

To let go of expectations from others

And just be

Sometimes, it hurts a little bit

But I’m mostly fine

The changing colours of the sky

The trees and the rustling leaves

I’m present, I’m here

I’m calm and full of love

I try to hold the warmth

For myself

It starts drizzling

I go back to my room

And realise that I’m not lonely anymore

I am free.
