Layla
Layla wakes from her self-induced nightmare
Layla wakes from her self-induced nightmare
Withdrawing from memories of love and care
Screaming into the winter silence
Heart hammering with violence
******************************
Throw Layla a life preserver; she’s drowning in fear
She jumped, knowing the punishment would be severe
Layla purges her guilt, spewing her self-disgust
She fell for pretty words sprinkled in stardust
*******************************************
Sick with memories, rotten and soured
Her essence he stole and has devoured
Addicted to his lust, she needs one more hit
Hating herself for not being able to quit
******************************************
For it’s not love, this Layla knows for sure
For it never springs from thoughts impure
I beg her to leave and tell him the last goodbye
For it pains me to see her loving the wrong guy
Layla craves the toxic dose of pleasure he provides
************************************************
Even as the poison takes over, destroying her insides
They may list the cause of death as a broken heart
But the truth remains, false love ripped her apart
