Last Summer

A poem

By Rasma RaistersPublished 2 years ago 1 min read

Last summer you were there to hold me,

to give me love as always,

till the summer rains came

and you let go of my hand.

Last summer my journey began,

from the sunshine into the darkness,

I felt you slipping away –

just wish I had been there to say goodbye.

Came the dark days,

that swept the summer away,

till I found myself alone in a cold winter world.

Still you were there,

I knew it because I felt the love,

there to watch over me

and shine your love from heaven above.

Came the springtime,

I knew it would never be the same,

in my dreams calling your name,

knowing you’d respond,

feeling your love all around.

Came another summer,

this one with heartache,

not having you close by,

the sunny days making me sad

and the rains just feeling bad.

In my heart I know,

you are ever here,

just remembering last summer,

before the angels came,

now years without you near –

still wishing I had been there to say goodbye.
