Lady of the ancient nighttime light
An elf's hymn to the moon goddess
Great protector of the elves, I thank thee.
Ye lady of the ancient nighttime light that guided us
From the times of darkness eternal into the time of light.
For the legends tell that it was you who was the harbinger of the sun;
It was you that forced the goblins to withdraw into their caves
Where they cower at the might of your beauty,
And made the woodlands safe for the elves to thrive.
I admire your argent beauty on lonely nights
When you watch the world with your maternal grace.
I wonder what you see on your throne, great moon.
Do you concern yourself with the lives of elves
Or do you not care?
If I cried my heart out to you, would you answer me,
Or would you turn away?
I see you on your celestial throne, showing no emotion
Like an unconcerned queen.
I must doubt that, though, lunar goddess
For every night you watch over us even when we can't see you.
I dedicate these verses to you, ancient moon
As perpetual thanks for all you have done.

For the Letters to the Moon challenge, I wanted to world build an elven society that worships the moon. This poem is written from the perspective on an elf, who is reflecting on this goddess.
