This is a very personal piece for me and it was hidden in black and white among my many other grief-stricken writings in my notepad. I wrote this back in 2018 and I'm posting it here now only to inspire other writers to write about their sorrows just so they can feel better again. This is my way of turning the black and writing into a colored version of itself. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

" Who knew the days were getting darker for Her

Should have been the reason why everyone was turning loner.

She kept fighting to enjoy more of the feelings she could savor,

Alas! In the end, She surrenders

-the Knight in Shining Armor. "

" She battled herself and died like a warrior.

She fought excruciatingly as if it was a wager

She knew that she was going to die sooner or later.

Still, she kept fighting her treacherous foe — 'the Cancer'. "

" The last days of her life were pale and darker.

She ate nothing and drank something to get better

To no avail; She succumbed to 'the Cancer'. "

" The night she died, everyone was deplored.

Crying their lungs out loud and hard; My mother and her sister.

All the cries and the lying-alone-dead-body making it even harder

-For me to stay quiet and calm my saddest fever. "

" That night there was a heavy downpour.

With it were my mixed emotions of pain, fear, and anger.

But nothing could change the fact that She had gone farther.

All I had with Her was Now and not Forever. "

" I felt the time was moving fast and even faster for my grandfather.

Relatives, friends — everyone rushed in to see their friendly neighbor

-lying down in no motion waiting to go away further. "

" It was getting time for the requiem of my grandmother.

Heavy cries and tears; the body into the coffin and soon in many a shoulder.

To the church it goes; one last jaunt from Her house and to the Church.

In the end, no friends for Her, no foes for Her — just Her and Her alone. "

" Reached the Church; the proceedings started, and so was the downpour.

The rain was storming down till I felt nothing more than a silent whisper.

The mass ended; cries getting louder and even harder.

And away the corpse goes, to the land of the dead, to 'the six-feet deep-er', "

" Sixty-one years of age, Six years of fighting cancer.

But in the end, all her battles felt futile.

Her kids, her grandkids, everyone in one voice pleaded her,

But there she goes leaving everyone with a poignant quiver. "

" Cry-a-river turned to silence and sorrow turned to bummer.

Everyone was standing tall except my grandmother

Just like that She vanishes into the Stars forever;

My Knight in Shining Armor. "

Jaseentha Ferdinand died on May 29, 2018. She lived up to 61 years of age happily and with unending enthusiasm. She was diagnosed with cancer in 2012 and died six years later. Her family was with her through all the struggles and victories until the very end.

If she could be defined by one word, I'd say it would be 'Hopeful'.
