Keep Breathing

Poem, inspiration, encouragement, motivation.

I thought I'd write

to you

-

sitting there

reading my words

Between sips of coffee or something stronger

-

standing there

examining my thoughts

on the commute

wondering, while waiting for your stop

-

lying down

pondering my musings

because life is, well life is just too much

right now

-

the funny thing about life

is that it's not about the big things

not always anyway

it's not about

your job that's weighing you down and the pressures of existence

the problems you have with the person you choose to be intimate with

your friendships, loyalties, any of that

-

sometimes

-

life boils down to just one thing

one simple trick

-

breathing

-

exhale follows inhale, repeat

-

the trick to life, sometimes, is to keep breathing

when things get...

too heavy to bear the load

too crazy to stay sane

too emotional to hold back the tears

just breathe

*

Thanks for reading!

Author's Notes: I am not naive, I know there is more to everything than just breathing and simply just breathing will not solve everything. But, when the pressures are too much...it sometimes helps to balance...to take a step back and just breathe. This was a quick bit of stream of consciousness, train of thought thing I put together. I hope it helps someone? It helped me, at the very least.

It's so true though, just stopping to take a deep breath can solve a myriad of anxiety and other things in the moment.

Of course there is more to it than just breathing, but you have to start somewhere , and it’s been proven, before…..just breathe. This is written so beautifully. Congratulations

Congrats on the Top Story! This was a really nice poem and a great reminder. It's easy to forget to breathe just like it's easy to forget to unclench your jaw or relax your shoulders. Great poem!

I realized the other day, how much I tend to hold my breath when I'm overwhelmed. A soft, gentle reminder from you to let it out. Lovely :) Congrats on top story. Hope all is well with you, cinq.

Thank you for this very simple yet very profound reminder. Breathing brings me back in the moment, which helps me remember that this moment is the only thing we have. I appreciate your streams of thought! You got me to inhale and exhale intentionally. Thank you, pal! :)

Aww loved this one! I often forget to breathe deeply. I breathe from my neck, lol, so always shallow. A very good reminder, so thank you. This is a lovely piece.

  • Yes, sometimes taking a step back and just breathing, truly helps put certain things into perspective. Loved your poem! 🍩🥐

I've been thinking these days about how we sometimes forget to breathe. Even though it's very metaphorical, but so true. A few puffs of air, and then back to solving our problems.

  • Sandra Matos2 years ago

It seems like breathing is so basic. We don't think about it. We do it. Otherwise, we would not be alive. But you ask us to stop. Pay attention to your breath. Inhale your bad thoughts, then exhale to dump them. See! You are alive! There is always hope when that is true. Thank you for reminding us of that. I love stream-of-consciousness poetry! I will keep reading.
