Why We Block Streets

Angry, drained, exhausted

These are only a few words to describe how I feel right now

As I look at a country that hates me I feel defeated

Those sworn to protect and serve are killing us

Where are we safe

Not jogging

Not walking from the store

Not playing in the park

Not even in our own homes

Then they look at us straight in the face and ask why we are angry

Why we kneel

Why we block streets and highways

Tell us to just sit down and shut up

To accept it

They will continue to kill us because they will continue to get away with it

Then they will put a black person in front us to tell us it was justified

To tell us why we should be murdered

Why we shouldn’t fight back

Demand justice

We were never meant to have the freedom and the rights that we have

And by any means necessary they will take them from us

They will put us in their prisons

They will beat us into submission

And they will kill us without remorse

And they will tell us our anger is not justified

Our anger is justified

and it will not stop until we have justice
