The heat drained away,

I was so glad.

Chill began to stay,

I wasn’t mad.

Green leaves turned red,

A sight that I can adore.

But it fills me with dread,

That I don’t want to explore.

The smell of smoke disappears,

I miss the delightful smell.

Snow is one of my fears,

Trapping me in my own Hell.

Soon the sound of birds left,

Mornings get way too silent.

Leaving my cats bereft,

Leaving the world dormant.

A smothering blanket of cold,

Its presence is far too shiny.

It makes me feel so strangely old,

And it has sometimes blinded me.
