Jumping into Books
A poem about the magic of reading
By Laurel MayfieldPublished 4 years ago • 1 min read
Into the pages,
I delve and delve,
An intricate story ready to be told.
I swallow the words,
Devour them whole,
Dissolving myself,
Into this foreign world.
I dawn my armor, helmet and shield,
I raise my sword,
And to the pages I yield.
No longer omniscient,
I have appeared within,
It is now my fight,
My battle to win.
My adventure to embark,
With sidekicks and friends,
Going through trials
And exciting events.
Mysteries to be solved,
And treasures to be found—
I’ve gotten myself into
A world with no bounds.
And when I find myself at the stories’ end,
I’ll reclothe myself in my original skin,
Close the cover,
Return it to the shelf,
Pick another,
And begin again.
