Judgment day

Baby it’s cold outside

Inauguration day,

What can I say?

Two old men exchanging vows,

A hundred ways to get them wowed.

A sombre, sober hat to wear,

Bathe in the limelight, without a care.

Baby its cold outside,

Please... let's stay inside.

The weather outside is frightful,

The Oval Office, quite delightful.

Time to get on with the new 'ministration.

A hundred new orders require contemplation.

Good luck and God speed to all who enjoy

The blessings of citizenship, for to deploy.

~ ~ ~

During the inauguration ceremony, I was struck by the simple, stark and sober authority shown by the First Lady's smart and stylish choice of attire. One to watch in the days, weeks, months and four years to come, perhaps?

Thanks for reading my little verse, which was intended as a media commentary, rather than a political opinion. I am aware of the strong feeling evoked by the result of this election but do not intend to make any comment on the outcome. I am not entitled to vote in a US Presidential election and comment only as an interested bystander.

Thanks for reading

I agree with Lamar. I will give the current administration the benefit of the doubt. My family members, including my murdered son, fought for this country. And you know that our ancestors said - United we stand and divided we fall for a reason. And we still live in the greatest country in the world. I for one am proud to be an American.

Yep. Hope it doesn't get any colder. I respect your thoughts as an interested bystander. I'm willing to give the current administration the benefit of the doubt. Let's reconvene in a month, lol.

She does dress demurely doesn't she. I will just have to wait a see what happens in the next four years. Good work.

It’s interesting attire. And a curious poem with a Christmas melody inserted. 🙂❄️

  • It sure is a sad day for many. Loved your poem!

So many good thoughts here, Raymond. I was glad that the ceremony took place indoors. I felt the tremendous pomp and circumstance and wondered what it felt like years ago with other presidents. At one point, I felt like I was on a thrashing floor, though...but then I thought that the thrasher had been thrashed about in recent years, too. I hope that is the end of all the strife and we can work together in our country from now on. Thank you for taking an active observation from across the pond...

  • Yeah, I thought that was an unusual fashion choice. Well day 1, TIkTok is back on and those insane tariffs he proposed haven't been imposed yet, so that's good. "outside if frightful", is frightful?
