It’s The Everyday Cares

The little things that matter the most

The scent of fresh rain

It smells of the raw earth,

A wet summer downpour

A cleansing rebirth.

***

Feelings of insecurity

As I head out the door,

So I slip on six inch heels

Feeling sexy once more.

***

A steaming hot bath

Wrapping me in a hug,

Mediative and relaxing

A mood altering drug.

***

Sliding into cool sheets

On a warm summer night,

Silkiness on a naked body

Sensuous and a delight.

***

A well cleaned shag rug

Sheer pleasure on my feet,

Reminds me of a massage

My souls loving the treat.

***

Silence after a hard day

A relief to my stressed ears,

The opportunity of down time

Until my head finally clears.

***

A walk in a rainforest

Totally immersed in creation,

Carefree and blissfully happy

An everyday mini vacation.

***

The aroma of a new candle

After it’s been freshly lit,

The scent perfuming the air

Forcing dark thoughts to split.

***

The heartwarming music

Memories in every beat,

As I cast back into the past

Where I’ve a front row seat.

***

The warm hug of a loved one

A feeling of bliss and peace,

Soothing my pain, my fear

As my torments decrease.

***

The smell of food cooking

As I walk through my door,

A labour of love, a blessing

And all I could wish for.

***

It’s the little things that matter

Giving me the comfort I need,

Stress removed, love received

My emotions soothingly freed.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
