Iron Will
Weathered lovers languish together,
Youthful affections dulled with every year.
The wife stolen away to a King's castle,
Her husband pursues of marital vows,
Lighting old, iron will.
To the gate, he struggles against royal guards;
Awarded the Truth: she’ll be sacrificed.
Charging the castle, the knight's company he meets, by his rampage, falls.
Hands stained red shake, his conscious burning, his blood rushing;
Betrothed’s memory ignites iron will. King's lair he lays siege.
Tearful cries, singing blades, malevolent curses, sing the husband's victory.
Of slain corpse, evil spirit emerges, betraying nature to rob the triumph.
Iron will diminishing, spirit offers escape. “Leave her.”
Wedded eyes cross, seemingly fruitless yesteryears now bountiful.
“Damn your choice. Take me instead!”
So, the husband rose, arms wide, steadfast to harboring the unnatural soul.
Malignancy obliges, deceived into immolating iron will, vanquishing.
Lovers embrace, promises renewed for a better tomorrow,
Thus departed the castle, hands interlaced,
Youthful affections alight again.
