Insomniac

So tired

This body is barely surviving

Attached to strings

These thoughts are never ending

So electrifying

Through the strings

They're conducting

Controlling me

Puppeteering

Giving my body mobility

I keep going

Unwillingly

Please let me sleep

I toss and turn in these sheets

Counting millions of sheep

Getting tangled in these strings

Till I can no longer move freely

Trapped in my own body

Seeing what's waiting for me

Unable to look away

As it slowly moves closely

Till it's breathing right near my ear

Echoing my breath

Then so harshly that it cuts the atmosphere

It whispers

“Wake up”

Like a spell

The strings start giving

They begin snapping

And temporarily I break free

I bolt up

Sweating

Heart pounding

Hands shaking

Each one of my fingers trembling

Twitching

As if they gained consciousness and are trying to flee

I'm so tired

But tonight I won't sleep

Even when I start drifting

There's still a part of me never sleeping
