Insomnia

Why I never sleep

By Sharon GentryPublished 14 days ago 1 min read

Insomnia

You thought you were tired?

That's cute.

You won't sleep as long

As long as I'm here with you.

Insomnia

Maybe you should read,

Or watch your favorite show,

It doesn't really matter,

You'll still feel alone.

Insomnia

Don't take deep breaths,

Instead, think of the day.

Did you really do enough?

Stop letting time slip away.

Insomnia

Remember what they said,

About the do's and the don'ts?

Maybe if you tried harder,

I wouldn't be so insufferable.

Insomnia

Don't close your eyes,

I'm still talking to you.

Don't act like you're strong enough,

We both know it's not true.

Insomnia

Still counting sheep?

What a childish thing.

Count the minutes instead,

And I'll watch your hope shrink.

Insomnia

Your to-dos and your insecurities,

Think of them all.

The more your mind races,

The more power I hold.

Insomnia

Four a.m. already?

It sure has been fun.

I guess I'll let you sleep now,

But don't think for a second

I won't see you again.

Tonight and tomorrow,

And every night hence.
